The Foundation: Weekly Planning and Time Management

You may have heard that Monday, Friday, and Sunday are the most popular days to plan your week. It’s a common practice advised by experts, consultants, coaches, and other professionals, It provides an initial framework for organizing your week, and that’s undoubtedly helpful. But what they often overlook is the need to own this routine truly.

To grow your business, you need an intentional weekly planning system tailored to your needs, that is why we decided to shift our planning day to Thursdays, and here’s why:

  • Monday is too early. You’re just getting started.
  • Wednesday is mid-week but still too soon.
  • Friday should be protected as a day for rest (as much as possible!).
  • Sunday bleeds too much into personal time.

For us, Thursday hits the sweet spot – not too early, not too late. If an urgent task comes up, we still have time to handle it.

Implementing this new planning routine, along with quarterly planning sessions, we’ve achieved tremendous growth since. Our actions have been strategic and aligned with our business goals.

The Power of Weekly Planning

Planning isn’t just about creating to-do lists; it’s about orchestrating your tasks to align with your business’s overarching goals. It allows you to step back and assess your weekly priorities, ensuring that your efforts are always in sync with your objectives.

By taking the time to plan your week, you can proactively allocate your resources and maximize your productivity. This approach also helps you identify potential roadblocks and address them before they become major obstacles. Additionally, weekly planning promotes a sense of clarity and focus, enabling you to make informed decisions and prioritize tasks effectively. It’s a valuable tool for staying organized, reducing stress, and ultimately driving success in both your personal and professional endeavors.

As we teach our clients how they can implement their weekly planning routine, we focus on coaching them on what this means, which is going beyond a simple to-do list. It means being strategic about every action you take, day by day, to propel yourself closer to your goals. We decided to create our unique planning routine, starting with a fundamental change: we shifted our weekly planning to Thursdays.
Implementing this new planning routine, along with quarterly planning sessions, we’ve achieved tremendous growth since. Our actions have been strategic and aligned with our business goals.

  • We’ve attracted better clients.
  • We have more time to focus on our programs and strategy.
  • We’ve made time for ourselves.

After all, what’s the point of success if you don’t have time for yourself?
